7 June 2017 Application is submitted to JAIST by SIIT. JAIST will confirm with professors.
18 June 2017 JAIST informs the allowance of professor contact.
18-30 June 2017 Applicants contact professors to get an acceptance letter.
30 June 2017 JAIST informs applicants about the interview process.
7 July 2017 List of eligible applicants will be announced.
17-21 July 2017 Applicants will be interviewed.
26 July 2017 Result announcement.
Admission Procedure
Interested applicants should inquire detail information from the contact person (listed here), or from the admissions office at SIIT before submitting the application.
The application documents have to be sent to jaistsiit@gmail.com and one hardcopy of the application documents need to be sent to the following address.

Applicants are required to initiate a contact with both SIIT professors and NSTDA researchers in their research field of interest. Please also identify the status of contact for all professors.
During the first year, students will take a separate screening exam administered each year by JAIST to be enrolled at JAIST from the second year of this program with reference to the general regulations of student admission of JAIST. Successful students of the screening exam administered by JAIST will be enrolled at JAIST in October of the second year of this program. Students participating in this program will be given a status of regular student at SIIT from the first year and at JAIST from the second year.

  2. A graduated master's degree in Engineering or Science or related fields with very good academic record and/or thesis experience; or must be a current/former master's degree student of SIIT with at least one international journal publication; or must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
  3. Two letters of recommendations. [Download]
  4. The applicant must submit one of the following English language test scores:
    • TOEFL score, at least 400 (paper-based) or 97 (computer-based), or 32 (internet-based).
    • IELTS score, at least 4.5.
    • TU-GET score, at least 400.
    Students must achieve one of the following English scores by the end of their first year.
    • TOEFL score, at least 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based), or 61 (internet-based).
    • IELTS score, at least 5.5.
    • TU-GET score, at least 500.
    The score must not be older than two years from the date on which it was issued to the date of the application for admission to the program.

  7. Certificate of studentship with current transcript at Doctoral level from SIIT.
  8. Research outline.
  9. One photocopy of Master's thesis.
    • If the thesis is not written in English, the table of contents and the abstract of the thesis in English must be attached.
    • If applicants completed their master's program without master's thesis, documents written in their previous research work can be used in place of photocopy of master's thesis.
  10. Copy of the score report of TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS (Academic) which is not more than two years old as of the application deadline.
  11. Certificate of entrance examination fee payment.
    • Students should pay 30,000 Japanese Yen (as of 2013) as the screening fee when applying JAIST. Follow the regulation of JAIST for the payment method.
SIIT shall put together all the above application documents and submit them to JAIST along with the list of the students participating in this program.
