Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2017/18 from PolyU is now open!
Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong’s universities.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) invites expressions of interest from graduates, irrespective of country of origin and ethnic background, with evidence of academic excellence, research ability and potential, and good communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities for full-time PhD study in Hong Kong within the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.
We are looking for candidates worldwide who are able to demonstrate:
•Research ability and potential;
•Communication and interpersonal skills; and
•Leadership ability and societal responsibility.
From 1 September 2016 – 1 December 2016: Applicants should first submit initial applications via RGC’s system to obtain a HKPFS reference number
(at 12 noon, Hong Kong time)
1 December 2016 (at 11:59 pm, Hong Kong time): Deadline for submission of full applications to PolyU
Mid-December 2016: Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews by academic departments
March/April 2017: Notification of results
Minimum English Requirement
1.An overall score of at least 6.5 (with score for the writing component at 6.0 or above) in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS);
2.For TOEFL, 550 or above in paper-based test (with a score of at least 4 out of 6 in the Test of Written English) and 80 or above in internet-based test (with a writing score of 23 or above).
All applications for RPg Programme MUST fulfill the minimum English-language requirements BEFORE ADMISSION.
University PhD Studentship
The university offers research studentships to full-time PhD students. The monthly stipend of the university PhD studentship is HK$15,700 (approximately US$2,000) for a maximum of three years. Conference and research related allowance are also available. The requirements are similar to those of the HKPFS. Short-term research assistant/associate positions are available for six to twelve months, with possible extension depending on performance. Interested applicants should send your CV and indicate potential areas of collaboration.
